Home sick for the Alps, a Swiss-German Couple built the Mountain Home Inn in 1912. Searching for the perfect combination of weather and views, they found it on a ridge overlooking Muir Woods and San Francisco Bay. Mountain visitors in those early days before there were roads made their way up the trails in search of respite and libations, by foot, horseback or via the winding scenic railway built 1896 know as the "Crookedest Railroad in the World." Captivated by Mt Tamalpais, the Mountain Home Inn is linked with many famous guests of the past, such as Robert Louis Stevenson and Jack London.
Restoration of the inn, so evident in the Mountain Home Inn of today, took place in 1985. The Inn is a spectacular eagle's nest set amongst the rolling slopes of Mt Tamalpais. Overlooking the beautiful village of Mill Valley 1,000 feet below and the ever-changing scene of San Francisco Bay - a handsome blending of the old world and the new - the Mountain Home Inn continues to embrace the magic and excellence of traditonal hospitality.
