A
tranquil volcanic island noted for its old plantation inns and
lush tropical forest reaching up to a 3,200 mountain peak. Discovered by Christopher Columbus in
1493, it is perhaps still the best place to encounter an authentic Caribbean experience -- it is unique for its many plantations that have been transformed into luxury romantic hotels. Strict development regulations have kept the high-rise hotels away.
