Curonian Spit

A long spit of white sand beaches and forests, the lovely Curonian Spit is bracketed by the Baltic Sea on one side and the Curonian Lagoon on the other. Occupied by seaside villages, lighthouses and thatched roofed houses, its 2,700 fishing-based population swells in summertime with Germans and other visitors on a beach holiday; Thomas Mann lived here for a few years in the 1930's. The Curonian Spit is a world heritage listed site.
